It was a surreal experience watching the demonstration outside the migrant hotel next door and simultaneously seeing a report on it on the TV.
The police already had barricades up around the hotel when the two rival contingents arrived at about midday.
The anti-migrant faction and the anti-fascists, as they called themselves, faced off.
Not having a very good view from the balcony, I watched the news report on the TV.
The right-wing reporter interviewed some of the anti-migrant protesters and made it clear he was on their side.
The atmosphere grew ever more noisy and agitated as the rival groups chanted at each other. I thought it must be very intimidating for the migrants inside the hotel. However, the reporter insisted he could see migrants at the windows of the hotel dancing and laughing.
If they were laughing, I think it must have being nervous laughter.
Everyone had dispersed by four o’clock.
